Sixth, thematic STSM call (2024)

The first call for STSMs for 2024 is now out: apply before 10.01.2024 to compete for one of the 10 grants to conduct a short research stay before 08.06.2024 (June 8). This call is thematic: several STSM suggestions are aligned with the activities of the working groups.

STSMs are exchange visits aiming at strengthening the existing networks by allowing individual scientists to go to an institution or laboratory in another COST country to foster collaboration, to learn new techniques or gain access to specific instruments and/or methods or techniques not available in their own institutions. An STSM should specifically contribute to the scientific objectives of FULLRECO4US (COST Action CA20133). To learn about aims of COST Action CA20133, please look at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). More information about the COST rules on the Short-Term Scientific Missions is available in the Annotated Rules for COST Actions.

Applicants are invited to apply for one of proposed topics related to specific Working Group objectives or propose their individual research theme. Click here to download the Call for Applications. Applications must run through the e-cost page (see link in the application button below).

After finalization of the STSM, within 30 days you have to submit a report. The template can be downloaded here.

Call for Virtual Mobility grants (2023)

We invite participants of FULLRECO4US – Cost Action 20133 Cross Border Transfer and Development of Sustainable Resource Recovery Strategies Towards Zero Waste to apply for one of the new virtual mobility grants which have been authorised by COST. We hope to make up to 4 awards of €1250 each during the current grant period. Applications will be assessed in the first instance by the Action Chair in consultation with the Action Core Group. Grants are open to all Action participants with a primary affiliation to an institution located in a COST Full or Cooperating Member country and to MC Observers from a COST Near Neighbour Country.

These grants are to help build capacity and improve virtual collaborations, in ways that help us deliver the overall objectives of the Action (these are described in full in the Action Memorandum of Understanding). COST has suggested examples of the sorts of virtual activities that can be supported, and some of these are listed below.

  • Supporting the harmonisation and standardisation of methods and procedures within the Action networking activities, for example by:
    • Setting up a survey amongst all Action members to collect different results and outcomes from their experiences
    • Preparing questionnaires and response scales to be used by the Action members as part of virtual networking activities.
    • Coordinating discussions to create common protocols to be used by the network afterwards, preparing questionnaires and response scales to be used by the Action members as part of virtual networking activities;
    • Supporting the implementation of research related activities that do not necessarily require in-person presence, for example:
      • data analysis of the Action for a specific report or activity;
      • content preparation and coordination of science communication activities, for example: online workshops like ‘webinar series’; online COST Action workshops in external international conferences or events, that could help in the promotion of the Action activities.

Please ensure you read the above before applying for one of these grants. Applications must be made via eCOST, and detailed instructions on how to do this can be found here (https://www.cost.eu/uploads/2022/12/COST-094-21-Annotated-Rules-for-COST-Actions-Level-C-V1.3.pdf).
